The City Church, New York throughout its fourteen years provided educational opportunities for adults and children through regularly scheduled Study Courses, Bible Studies and different programs in the Children’s Church
Children’s Church
The Children’s Church helped children grow in the understanding of God’s love revealed to us in the Bible, especially through the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. Classes were offered between ages four and thirteen and a nursery was provided for children aged three or under. Activities included Sunday Worship, the Annual Christmas Tableau and Special Programs.
Study Courses
The City Church offered many Study courses including:
- “Catching God’s Breath” – The Lenten Study 2004, a series of five lectures on the nature and work of the Holy Spirit presented by Dr. R. Maurice Boyd.
- “The Millennium Lectures”, lecturers included: Father Reginald A. Redlon O.F.M., a past President of St. Bonaventure University; Professor Frank Peters of New York University; Dr. Frank H. T. Rhodes, President Emeritus of Cornell University; Father Richard John Neuhaus, President of The Institute on Religion and Public Life; Rabbi A. James Rudin, Director of Inter-religious Affairs for The American Jewish Committee; Dr. Ernest T. Campbell, former Senior Minister of The Riverside Church. Included in the series was An Evening In New York with W.B. Yeats and John Quinn, presented by Neil Bradley and Paul Kerry.
Education
Dr. Ralph Blair lead The City Church Bible Studies held three times a year following Sunday Worship Services.
Some of the Bible Studies were “Four Studies on St. Paul’s Letter to the Colossians,” and “The Acts of The Apostles”.
